Sock progress

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

I have finally managed to turn the heel on the Oceanwind sleepy hollow socks I mentioned on Monday. Firstly let me assure you that these socks are going to be fabulous. However, knitting them is not for the faint-hearted! It is certainly not for those who want to knit infront of the TV in the evening! (Or at least turning the heel isn’t!). I did quite a lot of unravelling and then realized that the heel needed 100% of my attention – and once that decision was made, they progressed quite nicely.

I haven’t made socks with this type of heel and gusset before. The gusset involved picking up pearl stitches every second row and then decreasing again row by row into the sole. I guess the proof of the pudding will be in the wearing as at the moment I’m in a real inbetween stage where I love the pattern, love the colour, but am not in a position to judge how the fit will be. The leaf  pattern really is particularly nice though.

So watch this space….again…

Have a great day!

Helen

Your socks are going to be gorgeous. I want to learn to knit socks, but I’m not going to start with one that complicated.

That is probably wise Susan! These ones are lovely but are severely straining my little grey cells – not to mention my fingers! Happy Easter! love Helen
