A study in self-discipline
Last night and this morning it rained – well, stormed to be honest. It’s wonderful now. The sun is shining but the temperatures are down to a comfortable level. As it’s the last day before the girls break up for the summer I scheduled myself some ‘me’ time to make some progress on some of my projects. I’m surrounded by fabulous new fabrics but I’m trying so, so hard to stay on track and only work on finishing up the projects that I’ve already started. It is taking oodles of self-discipline, but I’m hanging on in! It helps immensely having them all stacked up on the armchair in my office/sewing room – that ensures that there is enough guilt factor to keep me on track! Maybe one day I’ll learn to stop being such a butterfly and be naturally self-disciplined and only work on one project at a time….or maybe pigs will fly…
First on the list is the Neckdown Wrap Cardigan from Knitting Pure and Simple. I’ve switched to five needles and am steadily working my way down the first sleeve. I love this pattern – I am so into knitting in the round and top-down patterns. Both make life so much simpler as there will be no long seams to sew at the end – which for me are always the giveaway that something is homemade. I don’t think it will take too much longer to get this done – all ready for the winter!!!! I have some slight concerns about the Malabrigo yarn that I’m using. It is hand dyed and there are definitely colour variations in the skein that I’m using on the arm – it has orange nuances that weren’t in the other skeins. I think it looks slightly worse in the photo than in the flesh and I’m not sure yet whether it will disturb me so much that I’ll have to rip it out and start with another skein. I guess I’ll finish up this arm and see what happens on the other arm and whether they match at all. I guess that’s always the risk one takes with hand-dyed products. No guarantee that any two skeins are really the same. The daughter I’m knitting it for is delightfully uncomplicated about such things and I’m sure it won’t bother her two hoots whatever I decide to do. She will just like the fact that it’s soft and cosy, bless her!
Now it’s back to the grindstone for me…
Happy Thursday….
Helen

I love the sweater. But are you going somewhere on holiday? Do you need to start something else to take with you?
