Socks and snow

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

As you can see I’m now making a start on the second ugly sock. Actually, if I’m honest with you, it looks much uglier in the photo than it does in the flesh. Truth be told, I rather like it. Here’s hoping my brother will too. One thing he won’t do is appreciate how much work has gone into these socks – non-knitters never do. But there it is, what can you do?

It feels really good to be knitting socks. It has snowed off and on since yesterday and will continue for the rest of the week. I guess I finally have to admit that our lovely autumn has come to an end and winter really is here to stay. Knitting cosy socks just feels like the right thing to do – which is just as well really, as a small element of time pressure has crept into the process. By next Friday I need to have both pairs of Christmas socks finished, wrapped and off to their lucky recipients!

My son is at home sick today after a bash on the head at his fencing class yesterday. In a moment we’re going to light the log fire and drink some tea together. We may even go overboard and eat cake.

Happy Tuesday to you all!

I hope that your son is feeling better Helen! Tea and Cake by the fire sounds like a very good idea, I hope you had the cake too!!!
Winter is here too, the snow is very pretty and I have to say I don’t mind walking in the cooler air. (I got away from my walking/running routine again but I’m working at it again)

Your sock is looking fantastic and I’m sure your your brother will love them, maybe not appreciate the work but enjoy the warmth they provide! As you said, unless you are a knitter (or sewer or other crafter) you won’t know how much work it really is. I can’t believe it’s snowing non stop already at your end. How I envy you. Hope your son is OK and I do hope you had that piece of cake!
